Process-memory corruption via crafted DDS file
Published Sep 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in IrfanView 4.54 FORMATS.dll allows local users to corrupt process memory by opening a crafted DDS file. The DDS parser reaches GetPlugInInfo+0x7e30 and performs a 32-bit indexed write to an invalid destination address. Exploitation requires the file to be opened in 32-bit IrfanView; the documented consequence is a user-mode write access violation, not confirmed code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
