Dart import hang via nested regex repetition
Published Sep 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Regular expression denial of service in Leo Editor 6.2.1 allows context-dependent attackers to hang Dart imports with crafted input. The dart_pattern expression in leo/plugins/importers/dart.py nests a repeated word-and-space group inside another repetition, causing pathological backtracking on a long near-match. Exploitation requires the importer to process a crafted Dart headline and stalls the matching operation rather than altering or disclosing data.
