Process crash via undersized null-terminated atom
Published Aug 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Bento4 06c39d9 allows remote attackers to crash the mp42aac process with a crafted MP4 file. AP4_NullTerminatedStringAtom subtracts nine from the untrusted atom size without first rejecting undersized atoms, then uses the wrapped result as the index for a null-terminator write. Processing the malformed file is sufficient; the demonstrated consequence is process termination, not data disclosure or modification.
