Engine crash via malformed object initializer
Published Jun 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Reachable assertion in JerryScript 2.2.0 allows remote attackers to crash the engine by parsing a crafted object initializer. The parser_parse_object_initializer function fails to ignore an asterisk, reaches an unexpected token state, and aborts on its token-type assertion. Exploitation requires an embedding application to parse attacker-controlled JavaScript; the demonstrated consequence is a process abort and service interruption, not data access or modification.
