Process crash via misparsed object property
Published Jun 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Reachable assertion in JerryScript 2.2.0 allows remote attackers to crash an embedding process with crafted JavaScript source. The parser reparses a quoted ObjectInitializer property as a common identifier without first rejecting the non-identifier literal, leaving inconsistent scanner state until parser_parse_function_arguments asserts that the next scanner record is a function. The embedding application must parse attacker-controlled JavaScript with assertions enabled; the demonstrated consequence is process abort and service interruption, not data access or code execution.
