Process abort via malformed object initializer
Published Jun 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Reachable assertion in JerryScript 2.2.0 allows attackers to abort an embedding process by supplying malformed JavaScript source. The ObjectInitializer parser reparses a quoted property definition from a pointer after its string start instead of rejecting the nonidentifier, eventually violating block_found in parser_parse_try_statement_end. Reachability requires an embedding to parse attacker-controlled JavaScript; the demonstrated debug build aborts instead of returning a SyntaxError.
