Process crash via malformed object initializer
Published Jun 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Reachable assertion in JerryScript 2.2.0 allows attackers to crash an embedding process by supplying malformed JavaScript source. The parser_parse_object_initializer function accepts an invalid object property definition until js-parser-expr.c asserts that the next token is a brace, assignment, or comma. Applications that pass attacker-controlled source to an assertion-enabled JerryScript parser expose the hosting process to an abort and service interruption.
