Stored XSS via unescaped custom-field names
Published Jul 26, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored XSS in Textpattern CMS 4.8.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in a user's browser through custom-field names. The Menu Preferences form accepts an HTML event-handler payload as a custom-field name, stores it, and renders it without neutralization when the Textpattern icon is selected. Administrative access is required to save the field name, and a user must interact with the affected interface; successful exploitation permits browser-context actions such as reading session data or redirecting the victim.
