Stored script execution via unencoded category output
Published Jul 1, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored XSS in phpList 3.5.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary web scripts through a crafted list category. The Categorise Lists module stores the Configure Categories field and later renders its value without adequate HTML entity encoding, so event-handler markup executes in a viewer's browser. An authenticated panel user must save the payload and another user must open the affected Subscribers workflow; execution occurs in the phpList site context and can expose session data or alter displayed content.
