Access-control bypass via trailing-space key comparison
Published Apr 28, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Incorrect key comparison in Etherpad UeberDB before 0.4.4 allows remote attackers to bypass key-name access controls through MySQL. The MySQL connector's get() and findKeys() queries compare key columns without the BINARY operator, so MySQL ignores trailing spaces and treats distinct key names as equal. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled key names reaching a MySQL-backed deployment and can return a record protected under a different key.
