CVE-2020-22026Network attack vector

Process crash via truncated tremolo table allocation

Published May 26, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Heap-buffer overflow in the tremolo audio filter in FFmpeg 4.2 allows remote attackers to crash a processing application with crafted audio. The config_input function allocates its lookup table by truncating sample_rate divided by frequency, but its fill loop reevaluates the nonintegral quotient and writes one element beyond that allocation. Exploitation requires user interaction and an application that processes attacker-supplied audio through the tremolo filter; the documented consequence is a process-level service interruption.
