Process crash via tiny-frame out-of-bounds access
Published May 26, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Buffer overflow in FFmpeg 4.2's YADIF filter allows remote attackers to crash the process by supplying a crafted tiny video frame. The filter_edges function processes fixed-width edge regions and advances frame-plane pointers using width-derived offsets that fall outside the arrays for tiny images. Exploitation requires a user or application to process the crafted media with the YADIF filter; the documented consequence is a process crash without confidentiality or integrity impact.
