Authenticated command execution via unrestricted profile upload
Published Aug 11, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in NewsOne CMS 1.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands by uploading a PHP web shell. The /auth/edit profile-photo handler accepts a user_image multipart upload with a PHP filename and stores it in a web-accessible profile directory without blocking executable content. A regular member account is sufficient, and requesting the stored script runs attacker-supplied PHP on the server.
