Arbitrary command execution via unsanitized Wi-Fi password
Published Jul 21, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Command injection in Motorola CX2 router firmware 1.0.2 Build 20190508 Rel.97360n allows remote attackers to execute system commands. In repeater mode, HNAP1/SetWLanApcliSettings concatenates the supplied wireless password into a /bin/sh -c iwpriv command without neutralizing shell metacharacters. Network access to the router's HNAP interface and repeater mode are required, and successful injection grants command execution with the router process's privileges.
