Process crash via out-of-bounds chroma interpolation read
Published Sep 16, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Heap buffer overflow in libde265 1.0.4 allows remote attackers to crash a decoding process by supplying a crafted H.265 file. The put_epel_16_fallback function reads two bytes past an allocated image buffer during chroma inter-prediction processing. A user or application must decode the file; the demonstrated consequence is process termination, and no code execution is documented.
