CVE-2020-21600Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Application crash via out-of-bounds weighted-prediction write

Published Sep 16, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Heap buffer overflow in libde265 1.0.4 allows attackers to crash applications that decode a crafted H.265 file. The put_weighted_pred_avg_16_fallback function writes a two-byte weighted prediction immediately beyond the heap-allocated image buffer while processing malformed inter-prediction data. Exploitation requires a user or automated system to open the crafted H.265 file, after which the decoding process aborts and interrupts the consuming application.
