Arbitrary file read and write via path traversal
Published Oct 4, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Path traversal in HongCMS 3.0 allows remote authenticated users to read and edit arbitrary server files through the template editor. The /admin/index.php/template/edit endpoint accepts attacker-controlled dir and file query values such as ../../ and resolves them without confining the resulting path to the template directory. Administrator access to the management interface is required; successful exploitation exposes file contents and permits modification of files writable by the web application.
