CVE-2020-21238Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Account takeover via login user enumeration

Published Dec 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Password-guessing weakness in CSCMS 4.0 through 4.1 allows remote attackers to hijack user accounts through the login box. The login endpoint accepts attempts without a verification code and returns distinct responses for nonexistent usernames and incorrect passwords, enabling account enumeration before repeated password guesses. Unauthenticated network access to the login form is enough to attempt the attack; a successful guess grants access to the victim's CSCMS account.
