Authenticated sniffer crash via out-of-bounds write
Published May 18, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Memory corruption in MikroTik RouterOS 6.46.3 allows remote authenticated users to crash the sniffer process with a crafted packet. The /nova/bin/sniffer process writes outside its intended memory bounds while handling the packet, ending in SIGSEGV or SIGABRT. Authenticated access and packet delivery to the sniffer are required; the demonstrated consequence is interruption of packet-sniffer service rather than device takeover.
