Privileged firewall access via Panorama context switching
Published May 13, 2020 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Authentication bypass in PAN-OS 7.1, 8.0, 8.1, and 9.0 allows remote attackers to gain privileged firewall access through Panorama. The Panorama context-switching feature fails to authenticate a management-interface request correctly, but Palo Alto Networks has not disclosed the precise validation error. Exploitation requires network access and knowledge of managed firewalls; deployments using custom certificates for device authentication are not affected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.1 <7.1.26 changes=[{"at":"7.1.26","status":"unaffected"}]
- Affected versionversion=8.0.*
