Stack-based buffer overflow in PAN-OS 7.1, 8.0, and before 8.1.14 allows remote authenticated users to execute code as root. The management-server payload parser writes attacker-controlled input beyond a stack buffer, but Palo Alto Networks has not disclosed the affected routine or payload field. Access requires an authenticated management user; successful exploitation grants control of the firewall operating system with root privileges.
