Stored XSS via executable uploaded HTML attachments
Published Sep 7, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored cross-site scripting in Xiuno BBS 4.0.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script through uploaded attachments. The attachment handler accepts an HTML file, stores it with a .__html suffix, and leaves Apache able to serve its embedded JavaScript as executable content. Exploitation requires access to the posting attachment upload and a visitor opening the stored attachment, after which script runs in that visitor's browser.
