CVE-2020-1991

Local privilege escalation via insecure temporary-file handling

Published Apr 8, 2020 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Insecure temporary-file handling in Palo Alto Networks Traps 5.0 before 5.0.8 and 6.1 before 6.1.4 allows local users to gain privileges. Palo Alto Networks has not published the temporary-file path or the unsafe creation, permission, or replacement operation. A locally authenticated Windows account is required; exploitation escalates privileges or permits overwriting system files, while Linux and macOS are unaffected.
