Application crash via unchecked media-buffer allocation
Published Jul 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in Bento4 1.5.1-628 allows context-dependent attackers to crash media-processing applications via a crafted MP4 file. The AP4_IkmsAtom constructor allocates an atom-sized buffer and passes it to AP4_CopyMemory without handling allocation failure, causing a copy through a NULL pointer. Exploitation requires an application using the affected parser to process the supplied file, and the demonstrated consequence is an application crash.
