Application crash via TIFF colormap buffer overwrite
Published Jul 21, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Heap-based buffer overwrite in Artifex MuPDF before 1.18.0 allows attackers to crash applications by supplying a crafted TIFF file. The tiff_expand_colormap() routine trusts malformed TIFF sample and stride metadata, then expands palette and alpha samples beyond valid heap-buffer bounds. Exploitation requires a user or application to process the crafted image; the grounded impact is an application crash, with no reported data disclosure or modification.
