Password disclosure via uncleared credential attribute
Published Jan 28, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Information disclosure in Apache Jackrabbit Oak 1.2.0 through 1.22.0 allows remote attackers to obtain a user's new password. UserAuthentication.authenticate leaves CREDENTIALS_ATTRIBUTE_NEWPASSWORD attached to the Credentials object after the first authentication phase instead of removing it. Exposure requires optional password-change or expiration handling plus an additional independent authentication mechanism, and the disclosed consequence is limited to the new password.
