CVE-2020-1926Network attack vector

Cookie signature recovery via nonconstant comparison

Published Mar 16, 2021 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Timing discrepancy in Apache Hive before 2.3.8 allows remote attackers to recover another user's cookie signature through HTTP requests. CookieSigner.verifyAndExtract compares the supplied signature with the generated value using String.equals, leaking prefix-dependent timing. HiveServer2 must run in HTTP mode with cookie authentication enabled; a recovered signature can authenticate a forged cookie.
