Stored XSS via unencoded Wake-on-LAN descriptions
Published Jul 12, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored XSS in the Wake-on-LAN widget in Netgate pfSense 2.4.4-p2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to run JavaScript. The wake_on_lan_widget.php component writes the stored descr parameter for Wake-on-LAN entries into dashboard output without encoding it. Exploitation requires authenticated access to create or alter an entry and a user to view the widget; script execution can expose session information.
