CVE-2020-19190Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Infotocap crash via unchecked hash-table index

Published Aug 22, 2023 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Heap-buffer over-read in ncurses 6.1 allows remote attackers to crash infotocap by supplying a crafted terminfo source file. The _nc_find_entry routine uses an unchecked hash result to index table_data, derives an invalid name-table pointer, and reads past the heap while comparing the crafted capability name. A target must process the file with the ncurses conversion utility; the demonstrated consequence is process termination, not code execution or data modification.
