Authenticated stored XSS via non-recursive title filtering
Published Aug 31, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored cross-site scripting in MyBB 1.8.20 allows remote authenticated users to inject script through the Add New Forum title field. The title filtering removes literal script tags only once, so a nested tag survives the non-recursive filter and is stored for rendering. Admin Control Panel access is required to save the title; later visitors trigger the script in their browsers when viewing the affected page.
