Script execution via unescaped page titles
Published Aug 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Simiki 1.6.2.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript through a crafted page title. The static-site generator renders the title through a Jinja2 environment whose default autoescape setting is disabled, leaving injected markup unescaped. Exploitation requires the crafted content to be generated and then viewed in a browser; the demonstrated consequence is script execution in that viewer's page context.
