Script execution via unescaped comment author URL
Published Jul 12, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored XSS in Halo 0.4.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in an administrator's browser through a crafted comment. The /newComment handler stores CommentAuthorUrl without the HTML escaping applied to CommentContent, and /admin/comments renders it as markup. Administrator interaction is required to open the comments view; the script then runs with that viewer's Halo web-session privileges.
