CVE-2020-1895

Memory corruption via unchecked JPEG dimensions

Published Apr 9, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Heap buffer overflow in Instagram for Android before 128.0.0.26.128 allows attackers to corrupt memory through a crafted JPEG. The read_jpg_copy_loop function multiplies attacker-controlled width, height, and component values in 32 bits, allocates the wrapped size, and then copies full scanlines beyond that heap buffer. The image must reach device storage and be processed when Instagram opens; an application crash was demonstrated, while code execution remained theoretical.
