Process crash via out-of-bounds WAVE metadata write
Published Aug 22, 2023 · Updated Oct 4, 2024
Heap buffer overflow in Audio File Library 0.3.6 allows local users to crash sfconvert by processing a crafted WAVE file. FilePOSIX::read writes a two-byte value immediately beyond an allocated heap buffer while WAVE format metadata is parsed. The user must invoke sfconvert on the crafted file; the demonstrated consequence is process termination rather than data disclosure or modification.
