Application crash via VC-1 heap buffer over-read
Published Aug 23, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Heap-based buffer over-read in Libav 12.3 allows remote attackers to crash a decoding application via a crafted media file. The vc1_decode_p_mb_intfi function in vc1_block.c reads beyond its heap buffer while decoding attacker-controlled VC-1 block data. Exploitation requires an application to process the file; the published impact is an application crash rather than data disclosure or modification.
