Process denial of service via heap over-read
Published Aug 23, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Heap-based buffer over-read in Libav 12.3 allows remote attackers to interrupt a decoding process through a crafted VC-1 media file. The vc1_decode_b_mb_intfi routine in vc1_block.c reads beyond an allocated heap buffer while decoding attacker-controlled file data. Exploitation requires the file to be processed; published sources report no confidentiality or integrity impact and do not identify whether the interruption is a crash or hang.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
