Remote code execution via unrestricted image upload
Published Aug 16, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in Django-Widgy 0.8.4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through the Change Widgy Page image widget. The demo site's image widget accepts any file type, stores it at a web-accessible URL, and serves the uploaded content as an executable page. No authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation runs attacker-controlled code in the web application's context.
