Browser script execution via unescaped database settings
Published Jun 24, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored XSS in Roundcube Webmail 1.4.4 allows attackers to execute script in an installer user's browser through database settings. The rcmail_install create_config path stores submitted database values in session configuration, and installer/test.php writes that configuration into HTML without output encoding. Exploitation requires the installer to remain publicly accessible and a user to open the test step, allowing script execution in that browser context.
