CVE-2020-18651Network attack vector

Application crash via malformed ID3v2 frame

Published Aug 22, 2023 · Updated Oct 4, 2024

Buffer overflow in Exempi 2.5.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash a consuming application with a crafted ID3v2 audio file. The upstream issue and patch identify ID3v2Frame::getFrameValue in ID3_Support.cpp, but public material does not disclose the exact unchecked operation. Processing attacker-supplied audio requires user interaction and interrupts only the application that invokes the library.
