Application denial of service via excessive allocation
Published Jul 26, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds array indexing in TinyEXR 0.9.5 allows context-dependent attackers to interrupt applications that decode a crafted EXR image. DecodeEXRImage constructs a chunk-offset vector from untrusted EXR metadata without bounding the resulting allocation; the published testcase requests roughly 17 GB and aborts the process. Exploitation requires an affected application to decode the malicious image, and the demonstrated consequence is process termination rather than disclosure or code execution.
