Local file disclosure via unsanitized PDF export scripts
Published Oct 10, 2023 · Updated Sep 19, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Typora 0.9.65 allows remote attackers to read local files when a crafted document is exported to PDF. The PDF exporter executes embedded script elements without sanitization, and the demonstrated payload reads a local file through XMLHttpRequest before writing its contents into the exported document. Exploitation requires a user to export the crafted document; the published proof of concept demonstrates disclosure on Windows 7.
