CVE-2020-18169

Privilege escalation via temporary installer file replacement

Published Jul 26, 2021 · Updated Jun 10, 2026

Local privilege escalation in TechSmith Snagit 19.1.1.2860 allows local users to gain elevated execution during installer use. The disputed report says the WiX executable installer extracts binaries and DLLs into the user-writable %TEMP% directory, where another same-user process can replace them before execution. Exploitation requires an installation or repair operation and user approval of the Windows UAC warning for an unsigned replacement; TechSmith disputes that this behavior constitutes a vulnerability.
