Unauthenticated file disclosure via XML entity expansion
Published Feb 17, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
XML external entity processing in Spacewalk 2.9 and earlier allows remote attackers to read files or interrupt service via /rpc/api. The redstone-xmlrpc XmlRpcParser accepts document type declarations and resolves attacker-supplied entities while parsing XML-RPC requests. The endpoint is reachable without authentication; entity expansion can exhaust resources, and parser responses can disclose file contents.
