CVE-2020-1629Network attack vector

Routing interruption via BGP NOTIFICATION processing race

Published Apr 8, 2020 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Race condition in the RPD process in Juniper Networks Junos OS allows remote attackers to interrupt routing via a BGP NOTIFICATION message. Juniper identifies concurrent message processing as the trigger but has not disclosed the competing RPD operations or shared state. Reachability requires network access to BGP and timing the high-complexity race; success crashes and restarts RPD, interrupting routing.
