CVE-2020-16041Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Process-memory disclosure via unchecked DataElement length

Published Jan 8, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in Google Chrome before 87.0.4280.88 allows remote attackers to disclose process memory through crafted HTML. DataElementDataView::ReadBuf accepts a BigBuffer without ensuring that its decoded size fulfills DataElement::length, allowing serialization to read beyond the buffer. Exploitation requires user interaction and prior compromise of Chrome's renderer process; the bounded consequence is disclosure of potentially sensitive process memory.
