Terminal display manipulation via unsanitized gateway logs
Published Jun 26, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Escape-sequence injection in Zyxel CloudCNM SecuManager 3.1.0 and 3.1.1 allows remote attackers to alter an administrator's terminal. The root-run xmppCnrSender.py gateway on WAN port 8083 writes unsanitized HTTP request data to /var/log/axxmpp.log. No authentication is required; viewing the poisoned log with cat or tail interprets the sequences and can change the terminal title.
