CVE-2020-14147Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated service crash via Lua integer wraparound

Published Jun 15, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Integer overflow in Redis before 6.0.3 allows remote authenticated users to crash the service through a crafted Lua struct format. The lua_struct.c getnum parser accumulates decimal widths in an int without checking multiplication and addition against INT_MAX, so a wrapped negative size becomes a large size_t and drives a stack-based out-of-bounds write. Lua execution permission is required; the demonstrated consequence is memory corruption and an application crash, while sandbox escape has not been confirmed.
