Authenticated code execution via update filename overflow
Published Jun 15, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in TRENDnet TEW-827DRU through 2.06B04 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code. The ssi binary handles update_file_name from apply.cgi auto_up_fw or auto_up_lp POST actions without enforcing a safe length, overflowing its stack buffer. Access to the authenticated web-management interface is required; successful exploitation runs attacker-controlled code on the router.
