Arbitrary file download via URI normalization mismatch
Published Mar 17, 2021 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Path traversal in Apache Ambari 2.6.2.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to download files outside authorized directories. AmbariAuthorizationFilter authorizes the raw request URI, while the web server normalizes a crafted semicolon traversal before resolving the resource. A path such as /bootstrap/..;/users therefore passes a less-restricted route check and reaches protected APIs, exposing files readable by the server.
