Application crash via unbounded content-stream strings
Published Jun 4, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Denial of service in Foxit Reader and PhantomPDF before 9.7.2 allows attackers to crash the application via a crafted PDF file. The content-stream parser processes lengthy character strings without a resource bound, causing an infinite loop or memory exhaustion. Processing attacker-supplied PDF content is required; exploitation interrupts the affected desktop process without reported data disclosure or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
